Solar Plate Intaglio

The gray scale image is printed on a piece of clear film. This film is laid on a metal plate with a light sensitive coating and placed in the sun. Where the sun shines through the film, the coating bakes hard. Where the coating is shaded by ink on the film, it remains soft. The plate is then placed in a pan of water and scrubbed with a soft brush. The softened areas are scrubbed away.

For the Intaglio process, ink is rubbed into the indentations on the plate and then wiped off the top surfaces.
